No case has been registered till Saturday afternoon in the incident of throwing a petrol bomb at the Pujamandap in Tantibazar of the capital. No one was arrested in this incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Enamul Haque Khan said that an operation is underway to arrest the attacker.
The police said that the CCTV footage of the incident has been analyzed and the people in the vicinity are being interrogated. He also said that a case will be filed in the police station today.
The police suspect that the three arrested from the spot may be involved in robbery and other crimes. The OC said, “Primarily, it is known that yesterday when something was thrown at the Pujamandap, there were some isolated robberies. However, a bottle containing kerosene has been seized from the spot.
The physical condition of five people injured in the attack has improved, said the OC.
A ‘petrol bomb’ was thrown at the Pujamandap in Old Dhaka’s Tantibazar at around 7pm on Friday. It caught fire but no one was injured. The police recovered the glass bottle containing blackened salt.Local people say that some youths threw a bottle at the puja mancha from a lane next to the puja mandap. When the volunteers tried to catch the assailants, they stabbed them. At least five people were injured.
The injured persons are Deepta Dey (26), Jhantu Dhar (50), Khokon Dhar (40), Sagar Ghosh (26) and Md. Ramiz Uddin (30). They are under treatment at Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital. And the three arrested in this incident are Akash (23) of Gaibandha, Md. of Patuakhali. Hriday (23) and Noakhali Md. Life (19). They are in the custody of Kotwali police station.
