“In a murder attempt case, the plaintiff has petitioned to remove senior Supreme Court lawyer ZI Khan Panna from the list of accused.

The petition was submitted today, Monday, at the Khilgaon police station in the capital. It states that ZI Khan Panna’s name was included in the list of accused ‘by mistake.’

The petition requests that he be excluded from the case to allow for proper investigation. A case was filed against ZI Khan Panna on October 17 at Khilgaon police station for representing students in an anti-discrimination movement. Today, the High Court granted him interim bail in this case.

The High Court bench, consisting of Justices AKM Asaduzzaman and Syed Enayet Hossain, approved the bail.

Panna’s lawyer, Ehsanul Karim, told The Daily Star, ‘Today, Mr. Panna was granted interim bail until the police report is submitted. The government side did not raise any objections.’

The plaintiff, Mohammad Baker (52), is a vegetable vendor who sells vegetables from a cart in the Bonashree area of Dhaka. He filed the case alleging that his son, Ahadul Islam (25), was shot at. ZI Khan Panna’s name was number 94 among a total of 180 accused in the case.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khilgaon police station, Dawood Hossain, told The Daily Star that the plaintiff came to the station this morning and requested to withdraw the name of the 94th accused, stating that he was mistakenly included.”
